What is an elective prenatal Ultrasound?

We offer elective 2D, 4D-Live motion, prenatal 3D Ultrasound in the Seattle area to provide a positive bonding experience for the mother, father and family members with the unborn baby. We feel that our realistic surface baby pictures and videos provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family. We make no claims that 2D/3D/4D ultrasound technology used in this examination is performed to better assess the baby for abnormalities.

Your elective ultrasound scan is an optional ultrasound appointment chosen to be performed in non-medical settings as an addition (not replacement) to your primary OB provider clinical diagnostic routine scans.  This sonogram is opted with an express intent of personal ultrasound enjoyment experience, offering you a remarkable opportunity to see your baby in greater detail, find out the sex early, obtain additional keepsake pictures, 4D sonogram videos and promote family bonding experience.

Is getting an elective (non medical) ultrasound safe for me or my baby?

Extensive studies over 35 years have found that Ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is performed throughout the United States. 3D/4D scans perfomed at private ultrasound clinics use exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasonic waves as in conventional 2D scan. At Prenatal Universe all ultrasound scans are performed by licensed sonographers graduated from a CAAHEP accredited ultrasound school qualifying them as RDMS registered or registry eligible.

How long does 3D/4D Ultrasound take?

Your 3D/4D Ultrasound appointment will last around 45min or less and as we need to allow some time to finalize your DVD and print your photos, but the ultrasound screen time will depend of the 3D ultrasound package you choose. Please, check our 3D ultrasound packages for details.

How far along should I be before I have a 3D/4D sonogram?

The best time for 3D/4D ultrasound is between 26-34 weeks of gestation for a single pregnancy and 22-25 weeks for twins. Many moms do gender determination in the early stages (16-22) and then come back for 3D/4D ultrasound around 26-32 weeks. However, 3D images of your baby can be obtained any time between 20-34 weeks of pregnancy.
Gender determination is done using 2 D technology for reliability purposes. For full-figured ladies we recommend to come in between 26 and 30 weeks for their 3D/4D ultrasound appointment in order to get the best pictures and around 14 weeks for gender determination.

What if I do not want to know the sex of my baby?

We have many customers who come to have this remarkable 3D/4D ultrasound session performed without determining the gender and still keeping it a surprise for the birthday.

What if you can’t determine the gender?

In rare cases due to the position of the baby we cannot tell what you are having during your initial visit and we will invite you back for an additional Gender Check at no additional cost. The free return gender check must be scheduled within one month, unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my 3D/4D ultrasound appointment?

Please, bring an ultrasound picture from one of your previous OB appointments or any other paperwork related to this pregnancy. This would serve as a confirmation that you are receiving prenatal care.

You are welcome to bring any friends or family members you want to come with you. Children are welcome as well.
